RANDY AND LEYLA

One week prior to the 2015 National Pony Championships, Randy was diagnosed with two types breast cancer. In spite of this, Randy and Leyla won the Reserve National Champion title. One week after her National Championships, Randy underwent a double mastectomy and began treatment for cancer. A few months into treatment, it became clear that the world championships was not feasible. Complications with chemotherapy and the port they put in to deliver it, landed Randy in and out of the hospital after almost every treatment.
 
The good news is that after a year of chemotherapy, Randy is back to driving and competing at top form. In 2017, they are once again ranked #2 in the single pony, having won the last selection trial at Southern Pines CDE. So, in 2017, Randy and Leyla would like to fulfill their original goal of going to the World Championships.
 
Randy is a proven international competitor, having won the World Championships in 2007, as well as wins at other international shows. In 2011, she was fifth overall at the World Championships. She has multiple team medals as well. Randy has coached and assisted a number of young drivers interested in the sport, some of who have gone on to compete at the upper levels themselves. Additionally, Randy has donated her time as coach or chef d’equipe for the US Para Driving Team for multiple World Championships. These teams won multiple individual gold and team medals.
